Eating healthy and working out isn’t just for the sake of taking care of our physical health. The biggest reason is because we end up feeling good mentally. As we eat healthy good foods, we rebuild lost energy that allows us to take our day by the hand and accomplish our goals. As we work out and keep moving, we release endorphins that make us feel happy and we want to keep feeling happy!
Employ the Dogs
A lot of folks find that adopting a healthier lifestyle is easier when they adopt a dog. This may seem odd and a little selfish but it’s a true win-win situation. Dogs require exercise no matter what size breed you adopt. Without exercise they will experience weight gain and debilitating joint and muscle pain. Because the dog requires exercise, it’s your reason to get out and workout. It’s a wonderful way to have a reliable workout accountability partner! Additionally, adopting a dog for healthy companionship saves a dog from shelter living and possibly death while in a shelter.
It’s important to note that while exercise is great for dogs, dogs do age and can still develop health issues. Regular trips to the vet, CBD for dogs, and a healthy diet will be a fantastic way to keep your dog in tip top shape to join you on a slew of hiking adventures.
Find and Do What You Love
When we talk about healthy activities, most people think we are talking about the gym. The reality is, you can get major health benefits and positive feelings just by finding your own activities that you love. Let’s start off with the fact that not everyone can afford a gym membership. The important thing is moving. Simply starting with a daily walk during your lunch break or after dinner is a great spot to start. It takes about 21 days to start a new habit and 3 weeks of a daily walk is a great beginning point. You will find yourself unable to miss a day and even wanting to add to your regime!
If you are already taking daily walks and feeling really good, look at some other options on activities you can do that leave you feeling good. Casual bike rides through a park is an excellent addition to a daily walk. Bikes are easy to obtain at a thrift store and you can focus on the joy of a slow bike ride. Riding a bike is a low-impact activity on the knees and you can control the level of cardio by adding hilly areas or adding speed. No need to rush it, start out with a casual ride with your furry companion and see how you feel. Increase hills and speed if you want to see how much you can push yourself.
Don’t forget the glories of swimming. Swimming with your dog will be limited to streams and lakes but is an amazing way to get in some exercise and a bit of fun. Swimming is great because it provides very little impact and uses more energy to move, burning up more calories. If you have your own pool, swimming laps a few times a week will strengthen and build muscles which will keep your weight down and make swimming easier and more enjoyable.
Sometimes we complain about a workout invading our day. If we are just starting out, we may complain about the post-workout muscle soreness and fatigue. It’s simply fact that our exercise makes us feel good inside. We come to love those post-workout aches and eventually that fatigue turns into workout highs. Take the 21 days and go for it! You won’t regret and your pet will love you for it.
