Fresh veggies, zesty lime, earthy cilantro and a feisty little jalapeno, all getting together and making beautiful Tejano music together.
It’s perfectly simple, and simply perfect.
I’m really excited to share my authentic Mexican salsa recipe with you. I think you’re going to love it! Let’s get choppin stuff up.
Here’s the ingredients: tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic and lime juice. Not pictured: a pinch of salt.
Is this practically the healthiest crew you’ve ever seen or what? The vitamins (especially C) and fiber going on here are through the roof. And no fat and few calories.
Eating this salsa just makes me feel all vibrant and healthy and in a great mood. Because it’s just so damn delicious! And then I remember how healthy it is and I feel even better.
For. Serious. Make plenty! Because once the chips start flyin, there’s no going back.
Authentic Mexican salsa is sometimes called chop salad, which makes sense because you just chop stuff up and mix it together.
So we’ve done that, and now I’m just squeezing in some fresh lime. I occasionally cheat and use squeezy bottle lime in other dishes, but not in my authentic Mexican salsa recipe. Nooooo. Gotta be real limes all the way.
All done! It seriously took about 10 minutes total. Let’s get this bad boy teamed up with some chips!

I discovered authentic Mexican salsa a long time ago, when I lived in Arizona. It was usually called pico de gallo or salsa fresca there. I actually remember the first time I tasted it.
I swear a part of my brain turned on that was dormant or something before. It was love at first bite.

My personal favorite authentic Mexican salsa recipe. Delicious with chips and most any Mexican-style dish.
- 5-6 Roma tomatoes, pulp squeezed out and chopped
- 1/2 a large red onion, chopped
- 1/2 - 1 1/2 jalapeno pepper, to taste (1/2 is very mild, 1 1/2 pretty fiery), seeded and chopped
- roughly 3/4 c fresh cilantro stems and leaves, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 medium limes
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Combine the chopped veggies in a medium bowl. Squeeze in the limes, add the salt and mix. Serve with everything! Keeps refrigerated for 3-4 days.
