Some cats and some humans…we were just meant to be.
This is King. Yep, a girl named King, though she often went by Chirpy-Derp. She was a cat of few meows and many shoulder rides. She was a gentle, fun-loving bad girl who lived by her own joyful rules. Her purr was powerful when we were together. She slept on my pillow with me almost every night. We couldn’t get enough of each other. We were the best friends in the whole world. This summer, a chronic condition ended our four years together. I was wrecked. Then, like a ray of furry little hope – Jack happened. The Jackster!
My mom has what you’d call cat connections. The very day after King let go, she got an interesting phone call. It was from one of the local animal shelters, letting her know there was someone in town that had a batch of kittens who needed homes. We went to check it out, and that’s where I found my little man Jack, aka Jack Dac, aka Captain Jack Salad, swashbuckling lover of adventure and Meow Mix Kitten Chow. And lettuce. He’s quite a guy.
The nice woman who was taking care of Jack and his family pointed him out specially. She said he wasn’t as outgoing as his siblings, and didn’t play much. He seemed very timid. She said he just needed to get his confidence. That’s what I needed to get, too. Confidence. Everything could and would be okay. I would feel happy again. I just had to believe it.
And I have to admit I was happily distracted by his giant feet. Jack and most of his siblings are polydactyl, meaning they have extra toes. I’d never seen anything like it before. My cute-o-meter went wild. Neither of us were too sure about it at first, Jack and I, but we took a chance on each other.
Best chance ever!!! Jack and I were exactly what each other needed. Jack needed a friend, a best friend who could give him all the love an attention and confidence in himself he needed. And I needed a best friend who needed me, who would help me see that life and love and happiness were still going on all around me. They were right in my lap.
Literally! Jack, I owe you big time. You helped me find happiness again. Jack fits in like he’s always been here. He lights up the house with pure kitty joy. He loves to get his romp on, and plays with toys like no cat I’ve ever met. His attention span is amazing! Way longer than mine for sure.
He has a loving cat family, too. Bubby, one of our older cats, took him under his wing like a mom. Now that Jack’s a little older they’re the best of buddies. He spends a lot of time playing and hanging out with Aunt Kosh, too. Koshie’s a grown-up girl who’s large and in charge, super smart and incredibly sweet. The best auntie in the world for the Jackster.
My cats are my world. I need special, amazing cats in my life to be me. I want the best for them, so I always feel good about giving them Meow Mix® food and treats. Their favorite is the Meow Mix® Brushing Bites® Dental Treats Made with Real Chicken. Seriously, check out the reception it gets!
Less tartar, cleaner teeth, happy cats…it’s all win.
My friendships with King, with Jack, with Bubby and Kosh…those friendships are so beautiful. I’m so grateful for the cats in my life. They rock my world. And even though I can never be as magnificently cool as they are…I think I rock their worlds a little bit, too. That is why I will NOT settle for anything but the best food for them. For more info, visit Meow Mix on their official website, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
So, my fellow cat people: how are you and your furbabies #PurrfectTogether? What’s their favorite way to have fun or play? What’s their weirdest, awesomest quirk? I’ll start. Jack loves to carry little jangly balls around in his mouth, throw them down the stairs, chase them, bring them back and start again. And again, and again. His weirdest quirk is he loves lettuce. Tell me your cat quirks in the comments for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card!
Peace, and much catlove. – Gin
